The topic of my doctoral research thesis is: “Communication, Creativity, and Consilience in Cinema”.
In my research, (and PhD thesis) I examine
creativity – and, specifically, comparing the of screenwriting manuals to the extremes of movie RoI, or Return on Investment (or Movie Audience Reach / Production Cost).

The core research question essentially is: “What makes a great film story?”
I examine common story / movie elements in the Top 20 RoI movies, and compare those findings to the Bottom 20 RoI Movies. And I compare that to the screenwriting orthodoxy. And: the result is probably not what you’d expect.
So – the very first part of “The Problem” (research question) with all this is: Define a “great” film story…?
